hi, i have 3 veil tail oscars and they are about 3.5 '' big. They all have gotten along wonderfully, until last week. One of them is beating up one of the others. His tail is all ripped up and he looks like he's got a bit of scarring on his sides. Is there a way to calm him down, like food or h2O temp? I have no where else to still the injured one and i really don't want to part with him. Any ideas?

:iagree:

Worst case, put in a divider for a week or two and let the poor fella heal up. The rearrange and re-intoduce them. See how that goes. Good Luck either way.

ive heard of this it happens alot 3 isnt a good number, two of them will pair up and pick on the weeker one usualy, not always

I agree with most of the above. two is usually a good number for o's. my roommate has 3 and had to seperate the smallest one. Lowering the temp may help, but I would go down to 72*-74*. 78* is pretty warm.

seperate the beaten one, and make sure he's getting more than his share of food, at least till he heals. totaly rearrange all the decore before you reintroduce them.

the scars you see are most likely just missing scales. they'll grow back.

thanks for all of your ideas and advice, i will def. try all of the above. My husband keeps making the water warmer, and i keep lowering it, so that may have something to do with it. Why rearrange?

Rearranging the decor will eliminate any terroritory that the more dominant O previously claimed as his own. It will put everyone on even playing ground so that they can re-establish which area belongs to who.

Ya i agree three is not a good number, I went throgh the same thing bought one more and it fixed it , Now i have five because i sall one i just had to have

What you could try is if you have a spare tank put the aggressive O in there by himself. Then rearrange the decorations in your tank and let the other oscar establish territory. Also try adding some tank mates. Good Luck.
