I'd like to know the species of the characin known as "palometa" in Peru (foreground in pic below). I think it's a Mytinnis sp. but I haven't seen any silver dollars in aquaria that have gotten to this size.

Thanks. I'm considering them for a personal aquaponics project. I can't really stomach tilapia (and most species are not legal without a permit, and the permit costs $805 per year). I'd really like to grow pacu for the table, but they're impossible to make reproduce. Silver dollars are apparently relatively easy to culture, and if they grew to the size of the one I ate in Peru, that would be awesome. But how realistic is growing out silver dollars to table size (9-10") in a 500-700L aquarium?
