I have to know, why is it that every single petsmart, chain store, hobby shop and wallmart sell Pacu's? Its insane, you can find em everywhere freshwater fish are sold? Who the hell even has a tank big enough to house a 3ft long fish?? A tenth of a single percentile of all fish owners? Is there some underground pacu eating cult or something Im unaware of they buy all these up grow em and eat em? lol Im trying to figure this out. I cant find a Black Nasty Cichlid here locally to save my life but If I want a godzilla fish all I gotta do is go to a freakin persmart!?
Can someone Pah-leeze answer me this question.

It's because people keep buying them. I think they're farmed as food and some of them get sold to the pet trade to be sold at pet stores. And then most people who end up buying them don't know how big they really get.

ive wondered the same thing, they look like pirhanas but they dont have that "killer" appeal most like. and i dont think they are that asthetic either.
at a the petland out here they have a 20" in like a 30gal, i dont think it can even turn around... and they are giving it away to anyone with a 175+.... i feel so bad but cant do much about it. oh and u can put ur hand in the tank and pet him, and he eats veggies out of ur hand too.
i think there is always an abundance because they are easy to care for fish... cant really give u a better explanation.

You gotta figure, they look like a pirahna (similar), they are small (to start) and cheap. And if they are being bulk bred for food, I imagine cost is dirt cheap equalling a great mark up. So basically it boils down to $$$$$$$$$$$$
I mean, I like pacu's, I think they are cool fish, and I think they look awsome when they reach their full size (Have some at the local zoo here) but these things are made for swimming pools not fish tanks lol
the lfs and walmarts around here all sell them too. but at almost all of the places they ae listed thast they only get 5-6 inches. or one place says between 5 inches to 1.5 foot.
