And one more question, I bought this guy a couple months back and he already had the missing part on his dorsal fin. Is that supposed to be like that or did another fish bite him? The guy who I bought him from had him in a 29 gallon all by himself from a juvenille. Was just wondering if my he was attacked when he was tiny and it just never grew back right. Btw, he is currently in a 55 gallon all by himself.

dorsal fin tears are common from fighting or if he got spooked in that small of a tank. Most will heal without issue.
 
I had a 11.5 inch midas that had a top fin like that and that's how it stayed for life it never came back together and it looked identical to your jd so I would say its going to stay like that but he is a nice looking fish regardless
