The first thing that entered my mind... Mosambique Tilapia or Oreochromis mossambicus. But not too sure haven't seen one in a loooooooooooonngggggg time.

Jaguar or some hybrid with jag in it is my guesss

Edit : Now i dont really know... after looking the pics a bit more. The red/orange on the edge of the fins throws me way off.

I looooooove mozzies.
You've got a nice male BTW. Males without females are far kinder than those with but that doesn't make them nice, and they get big, so he'll be needing a nice spacious aquarium with tankmates that aren't big enough to swallow and can hold their own. :D

Tilapia - Oreochromis mossambicus (Mozambique mouthbrooder)

Thanks every one i didn't relise that my little fish has such an interesting story!!!!!

listed as Class 3 noxious fish in all NSW waters under the Fisheries Management Act 1994

Check it out on the link at the top wow!!!!!!

Same fish... same story... different country

We too had the same problem when O. mossambicus was introduced as a food fish... till it conquered our water systems and displaced native species....

But a few decades later... you would no longer see O. mossambicus in the rivers....

They have been displaced by O. niloticus...

Same country... same story... different fish:irked:
