One of my peices of drift wood that i cant see all the time it is in the back of the tank covered by onother peice of wood .Anyway i was cleaning the tank today and noticed it is compleatly white with this furry like stuff (covered in it ) almost looks like cottom floating in the water . it is attached to the drift wood though . freaking me out . i took the wood out of the tank but what is it ? that is my question? . and can i get rid of it by boiling it in aquarium salt ??. the tank is freshwater .

Howdy,

Sounds like the set-up is not new. Thus, the original first-time harmless "slime" cover is out. Are you sure the driftwood is suitable for aquatic use? Almost sounds like it is rotting. I am not sure if I would put it back into the tank. You can sterilize it as much as you want, but if it is rotting, the rot will come back.

A pic would help.

i would post a picture of it but you cant see it unless it is in the water and i am not putting it back in that is for sure . and yes when it is out of the water it is very very slimy. the tank set up is only about a month old . and i did buy the wood from an aquatic store .
