Btw he already ate one of my clown loaches:(

Depending on his size, and he looks small, im gonna say you payed too much. Check around your local area and see for yourself though. The going price around here is 7.99 for the more common ones, which is all they ever have.

o, and sorry about your clown loach :(

I thought it was too much but i bought it cuz I never seen one before in any lfs and i go to like 6 different shops and when i saw them i got excited and just had to get one. its about 4 inches btw....................... LMAO:ROFL: i just noticed your sig:ROFL: ........they were talking about my clown loach.....go to that thread:ROFL:

Part of me wants to say mono and part of me wants to say ocell...

lol nice sig amesbien hahaha

letsgometreyes i cant help u on id-ing that pbass but i wanna tell u its ok for paying 30$ for it i myself did too! we were on the same boat where all LFS i visit dont carry pbass and the time i saw it.. i know i had to get one even tho i paid 29.99 :D

:iagree:
It is worth what you are willing to pay for it. Since you love the little guy, you got a great deal. I am thinking he may have come direct from South America because he does not look like a run of the mill Florida implant. We have quite a few varieties here but we don't have them all. I have not seen one like that so you might have something special.

After looking around, I came up with these. These are from the ID thread in the sticky section.

This one is a Cichla monoculus "Enviria Lake".

This one is Cichla monoculus "Mazan"

As a pbass ages, the solid spots and stripes break up and form a blended pattern. Make note of where the blended paterns are and their shape when comparing adults to juvies.
Notice these traits on yours and those in the picture:
1. a)The side spots extend with a lighter band over the top of the fish.
1. b)The side spots end just below the lateral line.
2. The horizontal line, both at the tail and the faded continuation down the lateral line.
3. The eyes are not red.

Your fish is certainly a Cichla Monoculus (mono.) but which type and which lake it originated in will have to wait until it grows some more. Still, a very nice fish.

Btw, two markings that are throwing me for a loop are the bands over the head, and also notice the horizontal line on yours extends to the nose of the fish (typical of many Temensis, though yours is definitely of the mono strain). Also the markings going over the back are much darker and more pronounced.

These extra markings make me think you have something unique.

For what it is worth, Cichla Ocellaris & Cichla Orinocensis both have blood red eyes. (They both start with O and the O part of their eyes is bright red.) Also, the Orino typically has yellow borders around the spots. The borders don't show in juveniles.
