I have this anubias variety plant in my 77 gallon discus tank. I got it from a local fish auction. I like that it is big, it doesn't make a mess or fall apart, and does not need a substrate (I have very little gravel).
My question is: can I split it and eventually have two large plants?
I think my discus will like the increase in shelter and I think it would look good too. THX

Perhaps you have other suggestions for plants? Please keep in mind that I don't want to use any substrate.

Yes, anubias can be easily split. Just cut the rhizome. I would recommend more anubias, many different varieties. My discus have a couple dozen anubias, and 7 species. Frazeri is a good species for discus, as the leave grow very large, and stand tall.

don't amazon sword plant attach themself to drift wood or rocks?

They can, but they will eventually break the wood into two pieces.

Thanks for your help.
I did split the plant - taking a big bunch of new growths off. However, I am having a problem anchoring it down as the roots are not very long. I put the roots under a rock but every couple of days it dislodges and foats up to the surface.
Is there a safe way to anchor it down? Example: is there a tank-safe string that I can use to tie it to a rock?

Would plecos injure themselves on the elastic? Perhaps they chew on it and get rubber in their system (and even cause it to snap eventually)? That worries me a little but I honestly don't know if this would be a real issue.

Not an issue. The rubber band will only last 2-3 weeks before it becomes extremely brittle.
