I just stumbled upon the mother of all deals. Just down the road a bit is a custom 250 gallon tank with everything but the stock (including two canister filters) for $400.

I'm picking it up tomorrow but I have one problem, it still has all the gravel in it. I need it out to move it but the tank is as tall as I am on its stand. I was planning on getting inside it to hand the gravel out.

The glass is 1/2" safety glass all the way around and I weigh 150 lbs. Is this safe??

I personally wouldn't do it. I would just get a net from your LFS and a bucket and scoop out the gravel.

Can you have them take it off the stand and lay it down?

Let's use some brain power... Now how can we make ourselves taller? OH THAT'S RIGHT! Just go find a step stool or put the tank on the ground... It's not that hard, and it would give you a lot more maneuverability than if you were standing in it. And how would you get out if you can't reach the bottom?

it can hold your wight think about how much the water weighs..... one metric ton i dont think that your 150pound self is going to phase it @ all

its meant to hold weight spread out over a large area not 150lbs in one spot I wouldnt do it just get a stool

Not so fast...water is distributed evenly and doesn't have feet that alternate all the weight of ones body on one spot in the tank.:naughty:

It's all about the PSI...

Pounds per Square Inch

divide your weight over a larger area like a couple pieces of plywood, say
12" x 24" x 3/4" thick, one for each foot, and you can dance all night in that puppy....that's like a .25 psi

Think, snow shoe, but plywood...;):D

Hmmm... no need to insult my intelligence with stool comments. I can see myself hanging by the hips over the edge of the tank with a net in hand. I have a 49g column and I have to drain it half way and bend over the top and stick my upper body in to do anything with the substrate. Its quite the sight.

Anyhow, the suggestion to move it off the stand with the gravel in it sounds ok. But I've always been advised that its not safe to do that. What do you guys think?
