I am planning on a DIY turtle platform... But if I want to raise the water level I have to raise the sides of the tank with acrylic/glass sheets to prevent them from escaping... I use sunlight for basking. Will the turtles be able to get whatever they need from the sun behind a glass/acrylic sheet? Thanks

Well, if the tank is inside then the windows is filtering out the neccassary UCB light anyways. So do as you want as for making a proper set up would mean you getting the proper bulbs. You could make your own platforn with plexiglass, driftwood, rock. Just got to find what you like and decide.

Lol right... I just assumed it was outdoors or at least with the window open when he said he uses sunlight for basking.

Like the other people said if the set up is indoors and the sunlight is coming through a closed window the proper uv rays are being filtered out by the glass regardless. If that's the case you need to get a uvb bulb and you can actually use a regular house bulb for uva/heat.

If the turtles are outside instead of using glass you could build a barrier using egg crate or something like it so the turtles cant get out but the sunlight remains unfiltered.
