i need a ton of minnows becuase i am going to put them in my outdoor pond this spring-sumer as alagea cleaners, food for thew other fish, distraction for predatory birds

Check your laws about stock the minnows AND the sunfish in the pond before get them. Most minnows aint native to California anyways. Red rosy/fathead minnows would be best and so are golden shiners, they were better suit to pond life than other minnow species. But most minnows are not best algae cleaners.

You would be better off with a bunch of invasive plecos from Paul Sachs, @ sachs aquaculture. they wont make next winter, but do eat algae pretty well,

they will mostly be for the natural look and as food for the other fish and as a distraction to any birds that happen to want to eat my koi

fishbase is better IMO than that place you showed because it has more north american fishes.
http://www.fishbase.org/search.php (search "ends with" minnow here {topminnows are not minnows}) BUT go down and change the country to USA. Even maybe put "california" in there too, just for good measure.

Go with fathead minnows or shiners or some other kind from a baitshop or something. Minnows can be fascinating in shoals for the surface viewer.

Fathead minnows do indeed eat algae... Not off of glass though. (according to a book of native fishes... but my tank has next to no algae)

Apparently baitshops have a lot of native fishes in their tanks of live baitfish.

Fathead minnow

Theres lots of minnows and stuff. You could try suckers I guess if there is any at a baitshop:naughty:
