i just got him yesterday, i havent seen him eat anything. no feeders and he wouldnt take any worms. any specific pellets or any suggestions? i cant belive hes not hungry.

any one i have ever introduced to my tanks, weither they be small/big/or even sick will love frozen krill
always worked like wonders for me

How big is the bichir? Do you have place or decorations for the bichir to hide? No lighting for the first 4 days will help the fish calm down. But do continue feeding light amount of food so any uneaten food will not mess up your water. Increase feeding as you see your bichir eating actively. It took my 3" bichirs 3 weeks before I see active. I would try blood worms, tiny guppies if you could find them from a reliable store, and sinking carnivore pellets.

I still hardly see my 12" ornate eat, I just make sure there's some beef heart and shrimp in the tank when I turn the lights off and he usually has a fat stomach in the morning. Took a couple of weeks for him to start eating much at all.

My three little ones are pretyt hungry tho, love hikari carnivore pellets, shrimp etc. Just give it time, he'll get hungry....

my ornate isn't shy at all infact when i first put him into the tank he instantly came out to greet me. However he shares a tank with a snakehead who's an aggressive eater. The ornate just gets scraps.

He is just settling in, wheni got my ornate i never saw him eat for months. But he was growing, i found out he hunts as night is shy when they are small, now my ornate is around 14 inches and east shrimp pellets like a vacum. Give him time he will settle in. I never heard of a bechir starving itself to death.

thanks im going shopping, he dosnt seem very shy. and he has a big log to hide under. he always has feeders so he could be snatching them at night. what temp do they like?

I've had my ornate like 8 months and I still hardly ever see him eat. Yet he keeps growing...:)

I agree, just have some patience and he'll come around. I've had my ornate for 6 months, and have only seen evidence of eating, (declining molly population, less ghost shrimp, fat belly...:D , though never actual eating:irked:
