Ok so I'm well aware that too much meaty protein can kill a herbivore cichlid such as mbuna but can too much vegetable kill a meat eating cichlid such as a venustus?

Reason I ask is because I give my cichlids a treat twice a month or so. I feed them spirulina infused brine shrimp in the morning and peas at night. This last time I fed the brine shrimp in the morning everything good. Fed the peas and 20 min later my venustus was bouncing around the bottom breathing heavy. Died within the hour. No injuries or anything. Could the peas have caused his death?

By the way their daily diet consist of NLS and Spirulina 20 flakes. The brine shrimp and peas are just a monthly treat.

Were the peas skinned?

Bazaar I can't think of a reason a pea would kill a fish. Peas are a laxative for fish so maybe it became dehydrated, but that's just a guess. I really don't know.

Yeah I couldn't figure out what went on. Last month I dumped the brine shrimp in and my ACI got a hold of too much. Died within 3 days or so. Stopped eating started breathing heavy then died. I chalked it up to "bloat". This time my venustus did the same but died within the same day and from peas. I'm starting to think I'm going to just stick to their staple food.
