I wanted to add a wolf fish to my 100G growout cichlid tank. There already is a midas, jag, festae, grammode. i've heard wolf fish have to live by themselves. Just wanted to know what every one else thought.

If you're talking about a Dovii, I think it will depend on how long you are planning on keeping it in the growout tank and how big it will be in comparison with the other cichlids. You already have at least two other fish in your 100gal that are known to suddenly take out tankmates. You will need a very large tank to attempt to house all of them together in the future.

If your talking about a mala then it can work but with your stock i dont think so. I housed my 10 inch mala with smaller fish and the ones who got hurt were the cichlids that stuck theri noses in the wrong place

yeah this is just a growout tank. i don't plan on keeping them in there long term. i already have a big red texas and dempsey i moved to different tanks. the scientific name is Hoplias Malabaricus. it's not a dovii. do you guys think this fish can live with others or has to be kept in isolation.

It can. Trouble is, as Aquamonster was into aswell, that cichlids are a mixture of curious/agressive/stupid, and when a Hoplias bites it typically causes open wounds, which can leave to infection.

Overall it can be done, but it is not recommended.

I'd say - probably not. The Mala will outgrow the cichlids overnite - mine grew to a very robust 14" in a year, 1 year and a half he's 16+ (pics in my gallery) In that time frame I tried keeping him with large adult Festae and Jag - no go had them at the top of the tank within minutes. A Malas aggression level is extremely high - you'd have a better shot @ cohabing malas with tanks a minmum of 8' in length.
