can ya use an actual sump pump for a sump system

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I lived in a house with a sump pump. When it rained hard, the pump would wait until the sump filled up to around 3-400 gallons, then it would turn on (loudly) and spew massive amounts of water up and into the drainage pipe, then turn itself off (loudly.) There was a serious amount of vibration as well.

It's not meant to do that often.

Damn that's to bad, that pump is cheap and moves a lot of water too... Reg sump pumps are big $$$ that move a lot of water :(

While you will save money on your initial purchase, you will earn that $ back in very short order by getting a more efficient pump.

Yeah, that pumps is an energy hog...it draws 667 watts. I wouldn't get it.

If you pay the national avg of $0.11 per KWhr it will cost you $52.83 per month ($633.96 per year).

I don't see a flow chart for that sump pump (all I see is 4380GPH), but I think a Laguna Max Flo 4200 should give you comparable flow and it will only cost you $12.67 per month ($152.04). The Laguna only uses 160 watts.

While the Laguna will cost you more up front, it will pay for itself within just ~2 months of operation. Over the course of 1 year, the Laguna will save you $481.92 in electricity costs.

Hmmm, if ya think of it that way I guess ... Also will that 4200 be enough flow for a 300gal tank with 110gal sump ? Stand will likely be 36" tall tank is 27" tall, so I'd think the distance from sump to tank for return would be no more then 10ft and that's rounding up by. Easily 2 feet just to be safe lol
