turn off the filters when you add the sand, and keep em off until the sand settles... or you can add a prefilter to the intake so the sand doesnt get sucked up and messes up the propeller. btw what kind of sand are you putting in?

Pool filter i read is my best bet with ray's. So that's what i'm planning on buying.

use a piece of 2-3" pvc pipe to funnel the sand down to the bottom. This will settle it faster with less cloudyness. I would turn the filters off until it totally settles as well.

aw i c. pfs should settle in a matter of 30 or less min. i have pfs in my tank right now. :D

So what just turn the filters off for an hour or two?

You like the pool sand? Stay down ok on the bottom of the tank?

i use pool filter sand ..

if you clean it REALLY well .. it wont take but 30 min to settle .. and it stays down .. even when the rays dig in it .. works perfect ..

Ok to leave the fish in there?

oh yes .. no problem there .. also like someone said .. use a pvc pipe down to the bottom and poor the sand in the top .. will take the sand right to the bottom i have never tried this method .. but it sounds like a great idea..
