Just wondering if you can ever use too much conditioner in the aquarium. I have 130g and im using Prime. I change a good third of the water and add 3 capfulls or so to the aquarium.I add the conditioner while the new water is going in because i use one of those tap hookup water changers. Id rather add too much of it than not enough.

Alot of people tell me to add enough conditioner to the tank to treat the whole thing when doing partial water changes, is this correct??

If your adding the conditioner to the tank itself after doing a water change then you have to dose for the whole tank not just what you put in. What I do to save conditioner is I only use my python to take water out then use a 4 gallon bucket to refill it. It take 2 drops from a medicine dropper for every gallon. So I add 8 drops to the bucket put it in the tub and fill it up and do that for each bucket.

What you did with the three caps fulls will be fine only side affect is it could smell like sulfer a tab bit but three cap fulls would be enough for 150 gallons so its not much more so it shouldnt even smell.

What is water conditioner.

the people that use SeaChem's Prime do this because I believe this is what it states on the bottle - a great trick from seachem to get you to use more Prime :)

for most other manufacturers, it will say to dose for the volume of new chlorinated water only.

It makes since if you have a 150 gallons take out 30 put 30 back in and only put in enough for 30 gallons the other 120 gallons is going to dilute it down.
