Just wondered as i will be going to mission viejo in a few weeks... cali is where all the fish is at. Just wondered if you are allowed to carry on a fish, or is there any way to bring back fish on a plane??

You could always just ask the airline you flying on. No sense in boxing them up and finding out at the gate you can't take them on with you.

You will probably be required to check it.. I doubt w/ the restrictions that you'll be able to bring it on as a carry-on. dogs and cats require certain health records ect before being allowed. TBH you're best bet is if you find something at the LFS have them ship it to you, it's imo the only gaurantee you'll have of getting the fish home. Otherwise.. call the airline you're flying with and find out what you'll need.

I think as a carry on is a No Go, but as a check in, I think is possible. I don't think your allowed more then 8oz of any liquid on/carry on on the plane.

i doubt you can hand carry anything with that much amount of liquid in it.

Might be some restrictions too depending on type of fish and from what area. Example Snakehead brought in from Canada to the US or Piranha's to states where they are banned. Native fish might not be allowed to be removed and transported. Check regulations/laws first!

Just talk to the airline--don't want to go through all of the trouble and not be able to take it.

Oh and by the way, when airlines decide not to let you on the plane with something, they often will just dispose of it so make sure to do your homework, no sense wasting a good fish.

Be careful though! True story: 13 years ago I tried to take a fish on a plane in a tupperware container. The airline wouldn't allow it so they made me rent a dog carrier, put the tupperware in the carrier and check it. When I landed at my destination, though, I found out that the carrier was lost! Completely off the grid! So to this day, I don't know what happened to my poor little fishy.
