can you cross breed oscars?

but i think the only cross breeding ull achieve is longfin oscar x normal oscar haha
i think oscars genes are to specific

You can only breed oscars with other Astronotus species and besides the oscar there is only one other confimed species. Astronotus crassipinnis. Their next closest relatives belong to the Chaetobranchus genus and it's likely they can cross with them as well. I have never seen these fish in the hobby. There are currently two Chaetobranchus species classified.

well i'll just stick with oscars then cause they have better coloration

Druu; I can think of quite a long list of hybrids where animals from different genera were used.
