I have a 55 gallon with a that has a filter(Aquino hang on back) that has been through the nitrogen cycle. I want to buy a fluval 405 and run it with that filter and I was wondering of the fluval will build up beneficial bacteria on its own, or do I have to put it on an empty tank and do a fish less cycle in order to build up bacteria.

You can put it on the existing fish tank...it'll even be faster if you mix some biological material from the old filter in the new filter.
