I have a pair of tapajos breeding in a 135 tank but the fry eventually get eaten by a pack of clown loaches. I know it is common when breeding angels to remove the brick or rock with eggs on it and hatch them by just keeping a good flow of water moving over them most often by placing an airstone running in front of it. The female tapajos does most of the mouthbrooding, picks them up when they are just barely wiggling and keeps them in her mouth for about 3 days, at that point she usually spits them into a nest now and then and then the CLs attack. I don't think the mouthbrooding is essential - anyone know?
I don't want to catch the female with fry in her mouth as I have read she will most likely spit out the fry once she is caught or threatened trying to save her fry. This is my 2nd pair. I isolated another pair in a 20 long just before they were ready to spawn and after nearly 3 weeks, nothing yet. I plan to move them to a bigger tank eventually but the tank is not ready yet and they are acting a little more horny again so I'll wait and see. I also read another post about a fellow MFKer in Florida that pulls tapajos out of his pond and puts them in a 20 to breed and that has worked for him but for now I would like to remove the eggs out of my 135 and try hatching them on my own. Thanks for your help MFKers.
