These Amphilophines, are very territorial so (as said above) trying to keep them with other cichlids, is usually an exercise in futility.
They do however, share habitat in nature with Astyanax tetras, which they do not seem to see as territorial usurpers.
If the tetras are not able to be swallowed, and your tank is large enough, they might of unmolested (6 ft or larger).
I keep the Panamanian equivalent Astyanax species with my cichlids and most of the time, they are ignored, but also provide a dither effect which seems to bring out cichlids, that when kept without other fish, sometimes spend a lot of time hiding.
