Can you have too much UV?

Thought I would post this. Someone may find it interesting. I am project manager for a sewer/water district. One of my projects is an expansion of a sewage treatment plant. We are upgrading the UV to treat 24 mgd. We are installing 2 - 40 HO bulb units per channel, 400 bulbs total. The last other pic is of a sand filter that treats about 6 mgd. Thought some filtration geeks would like to see this stuff on a grand scale.

That looks pretty cool, I wonder if any public aquariums do anything similar

Gotta love those open channel UV.
 
I would think public aquariums would use an in pipe system like the pic below. Where we are using a gravity system at this point.
