Can anyone help me ID this fish? It's the blue one in the photos. I thought it was a Johanni but not I'm not so sure since it's stripes are vertical. Maybe a demasoni?

looks almost like a demasoni elongatus hybrid, or kennyi elongatus hybrid. elongatus blood is obvious, but the other half is more tricky... once he's older it'll be easier, but he's definetely a hybrid

Malcolm1, their asking about the blue one, the bumblebee's just a photobomber :P lol

I am no expert by any means but I can see how it could be a hybrid. It looks like a couple of different types of cichlids. Most of the time he looks like a solid color with faint stripes. When he eats the stripes get really dark. I bought him at the LFS, is it pretty common for them to sell hybrids?

VERY common. it takes a well trained eye to spot a specific species in their mixed tanks. most red zebras are pure, ebjohanni, and bumblebee's, but these guys are also the most common hybrids (among others). we may not have a definitive answer to what's in his blood, but we can tell you that he's a hybrid. personally, i like hybrids just for the fun of the mystery! if i could, i'd have a tank of all my adult hybrids so that i wouldnt have to worry about them with my pure species (some are easy to mix up, like my 'icefin zebras' have yellowy-orange bodies and bright metallic ice-blue fins. an untrained eye would think it's just a mutated zebra! its actually an F1 hybrid between a male kennyi and female red zebra)

good luck with your fish!

I figured so... oh well he's pretty neat and has a nice personality. It will be interesting to see what he turns out like.

Thanks for the help:)
