I was on a road trip last weekend and picked up some fish at the Puppy Center in CT. One was a cichlid only marked as "aequidens". I thought it looked like an itanyi (dolphin acara) - but I am not 100% positive.. would just like to know for sure. Sorry about pics quality... first try at it. Thanks !

Ports are Cichlasoma, not Aequidens FYI.

Does anyone think it looks more like a brown port (Cichlasoma bimaculatum) than a true port (Cichlasoma portalegrensis)? Lacking the irredescance (sp.?) that true ports often have ... though I suppose it could still be stressed from the move.

And Cichlasoma can be a pain to tell apart. Most all look the same. *grumbles*

Ah ha!! Was thinking either amazonarum or bimaculatum ... went with the brown port cichlid since it's more common than the amazons.

That and they look hugely differant the the port cichlids Peanut posted in the Lounge.
