pretty what ever it is kind of looks like a hybrid it looks like it may have red terror in it

I want to know what kind of fish it is because I don't want to put a killer fish in with my others lolol This fish is only about 2 1/2 - 3 inches and it swims around with my big Oscars like it owns the place...I've only had it for a week too. How big do vieja's grow and are they aggressive?

If you can picture a Frying pan swimming around the tank then you got the right Image of a full grown Vieja. I mean some will stay in a 12" mark but most are HUGE! They are a great fish to have upon maturity and fetch a good penny. Vieja are aggressive but not like parachromis more like JD or GT species.

I'm wondering if this is the fish?

Comments:These are smaller, 'chunkier' Vieja type cichlids, not commonly seen in the hobby. With adult size, both the male and female will attain approximately the same lengths, but the males of this species are definitely more robust in build, and will develop a much denser field of red 'spangling' across the body than the females. A true omnivore, feed a lot of vegetal based foods for best coloration and health. Mixes well in community type aquariums with other cichlid species - but definitely, Beware of stocking with other Vieja types! Recommended stocking is as a compatible, established pair, in minimum sized four foot long tanks. This species can become hyper-aggressive when defending spawning sites. Pulling other fish out of a tank with a spawning pair of V. hartwegi in it, may be necessary to protect the non-spawning fish - even in larger (six foot plus sized) aquariums.

i can't really read it theres alot of little cichlidforum.com adds but that doesn't look like your fish but you'll have to wait and see if its aggressive or not the aggression level ranges alot with Vieja species

Chances are if you got it from a reputable lfs and it wasn't labeled, it probably is a hybrid. Won't know until it grows out.

I too would have to say Vieja of some sort. Ummm, I just can't figure it out. It reminds me of something. I'll keep looking at it but it seems like a hybrid.
