Can you keep green spotted or figure 8 puffers in freshwater for life?

Honestly, for housing an adult fahaka long term I would aim for nothing less than 125G min and even thats pushing it for an adult that could reach 16-17”...
With that said, i’d try to keep an eye open for a 2nd hand tank while your guy is still young, something like a 180G will give you more than enough space to house the fish and leave you some leeway to keep water parameters in check...
LFS’ around the globe will often tell people what they want to hear in order to sell a fish (they are a business after all)... this is why research before buying a pet is usually so important...
By amy chance do you know were to get the cheapest 180 possible and could a fahaka puffer get along with a cuban gar i have always wanted one yet was never able to find one anyway mine is currently with 2 red devils and a red festae I plan on getting rid of.
In a year they do then they reach full grown 16+ in a few more yrs. I've seen a video of a 1 in a million 18-20" fahaka.
My old 180 fresh I bought used for roughly 500. You should be able to get one for around 400-800 in the US
