Can your over dose a fish with metronidazole?

I have a fish with HITH, and I bought some metro tabs, but they arrived all crushed, and the seller told me not to worry about it because you can not over dose on it.

I am not happy at all- I know that it will get crushed when I use it, but at least I will know how much I am crushing up.

Any suggestions?

I suggest you crush it further, and make it into a medicated gel food. If you would like instructions, follow this link. http://thegab.org/Illness-and-Treatment/an-easy-medicated-gel-food-recipe.html

Metronidazole is much more successful when fed to the fish as opposed to a water treatment. It killed my biobugs, so watch out for this. Some people don't have a problem, while others do.

Good recipe, but doesn't really help me in my situation right now.. It's one fish, going in a 10 gallon tank.. I get its better to orally dose, but I got 10 tabs, not getting even a teaspoon out of them..

I was supposed to get 25 tablets..

And not to mention that the amount in which they are crushed (fine powder almost) makes them seem like they are old meds..

I am thinking maybe- get a refund, send them back, and get them somewhere else where I know they are fresh?

That's probably a good idea. Metro easily goes bad, and expired anti-parasitics can have bad side-effects and end up causing injury. I purchased my Metronidazole in a blue tube that comes with a measuring spoon. It's made by Seachem.

That stuff is dosed using I believe 2 heaping scoops (the measuring spoon is rather small) in a tablespoon of gel food. I've even just got a few different types of baby food mixed in with some heated gelatin (mixed with a little water.)

I found it at a local fish store. Maybe you can call around and see if someone sells it near you? Or maybe a fish store near you would be able to order it for you. Worse case scenario, you can buy some Jungle anti-parasite food from Petsmart. It includes Metronidazole, Praziquantel and Levamisole.
