I saw some different posts and thought plumbing a canister filter into bulkheads on the bottom or sides of the tank would be an excellent way to make the tank look "cleaner" and provided you could plumb the intake into the bottom of the tank it would be awesome for removing waste.
Its been recently brought to my attention that this could be a disaster waiting to happen because plumbing the intake at the bottom of the tank would be too much pressure for the canister filter to handle. I've tried looking into it and I've gotten a lot of mixed reviews from both sides. Some say they have done it and it works just fine while others tell me that its only a matter of time before those systems fail.
I guess the question is can you successfully do this or is it really just a matter of time?
Can anyone who's done this maybe post some pics and say how long they've had it setup this way?
I know you can plumb diatom filters in this way and there's no issues. Also, here's the thread that got me thinking about this originally:
