Ive got a female JD and would like to get a male when I move her to a bigger tank. How ever I plan on putting other fish in there with them. The other fish are 5 CLs and a Synodontis. Main reason I want to prevent them from breeding is that I dont want my other fish to get killed. Second is I dont really want to deal with a breeding pair of JDs =P

:nilly: Are you serious?

If you don't want fish to spawn then don't get a pair.

Poor water quality and poor diet will prevent them from spawning.:(

there breeding behaviour will only last for one day with the synodontis in there. he will eat the eggs in the first night.

if you don't want any spawning, then get another female, not a male. its as simple as that.

and what tank are u gonnna get her to go in? 55 or bigger for 2 JDs or if u really want a male with the female JD get the 75 cause then u can have tankmates with them then. and lower temps ( 72 to 74 ) will stop them from breeding i heard.

Two tanks will stop them breeding, why get a pair if you don't want them to breed :screwy:. Get a larger tank and get some Silver Dollars and some catfish or loaches and they'll eat any fry.

Yeah I know its a wacky question, but I really like how the pairs look together. Ill probably just leave her on her own with the CLs and Syno. Thanks for the input.

My firemouths spawn every 3-4 weeks and the fry only last 4-5 days. Of course there are a dozen assorted loaches that pic off the fry.
