Can You Sex a Umbriferus ?

I’m trying to sex my umbee. The picture’s are of poor quality. But if any one could help me I would really appreciate it.
It was very difficult for me to take pictures of my umbee. Because he would hide or attack the glass, therefore, the pictures would come out blurry. So I got my Dovii out of his tank put him in with the umbee. I knew they would fight right away. It was the perfect opportunity for me to use my worthless camera phone. I hope all that trouble was worth it.

Looks like a female to me. I have raised 4 Umbee to 10" or larger and only one has been a male and your Umbees body shape looks female to me, but I'm no expert. What size is it?

Very pretty spangles but I would have to say female. The black dorsal is clearly seen in the front - noncharacteristic of a male. Did you happen to notice your umbie turning a bright yellow while the dovii was in? That may happen in time. If it does, then yes, a more defining feature for a female.

I was hoping for a boy. The Umbee is 6 inches long. I have never seen the umbee turn yellow only a dark brown color.
