All but the jags are in my 55 awaiting transfer to my 190 within a couple of weeks (I've got to get a stand built). There's also a Synodontis epterus in the 55 that will also go in the 190.

So far, everyone gets along fine in the 55. I can't wait to get them in the big tank and add a couple more. I'd like to add 1 Amphilophus festae (Red Terror), 1 Cichlasoma salvini (Salvini), and 1 Sorubim lima (Lima Shovelnose Catfish). I wouldn't be adding these others (to the 190) until the big tank is up and running.

The baby jags are in a 10 gallon by themselves until they get big enough to go in with the big boys. At maybe 3" or so, hopefully I'll know if I have a male out of the two and add him to the big tank as well. If not, I'll either add the best looking female of the two or search out a good male jag somewhere.

Anyway, if you can sex these fish, I'd appreciate it. I'm more curious than anything. The ones I have so far are keepers. Also, if it's too hard to judge by the pics, give me some tips on sexing the fish I posted pics of and the ones I'd like to add.

As always, thanks very much in advance for any and all help and/or suggestions. And thanks for this great forum.:)

maybe try to get a better pic of the JD's gills or just look. If there is no blue spots on the gill plates male but if it is blue and a lot of blue female sorry can't help with others

it's pretty near impossible to sex oscars
the JD looks like a male
the motaguense looks like a female. it's not a red tiger either... it's a normal version.

Please tell me the difference between a Red Tiger Mota and a regular one. All I ever see in searches is "Red Tiger Mota" for Parachromis motaguense.

Thanks very much for your help.:)

As for the JD, there seems to be blue spots all over the gill plates.

As for jags, is there a way to determine sex by colr and shape of fins? For instance, of the two, one is considerably lighter in color. The one that is lighter in color has rounded dorsal and anal fins. The darker one has pointed dorsal and anal fins. Does this mean anything or is it simply 'too early to tell'?

Also, if anyone can point me to a decent link explaining the differences between Red Tiger Mota and regular Mota, it would be greatly appreciated. Is it just a geographical difference with the color variation? All I seem to find in searches for Parachromis motaguense is Red Tiger Mota.

Thanks again.:)

Thanks. As for the jags, which is which?

the lighter one with the curved fins is the female.

Thanks very much. That's the main information I was looking for with this thread.:)
