Hi,i want to ask something.i have been wondering for a quite time, about the maximum lenght of senegal bichir.some souces say only around 30 cm or even 20 cm,but wikipedia say 56 cm in captivity, and even 80-70 cm at wild.my local fishstore keeper also said that senegal can grow up to 60 cm.which one is the truth?do you guys in here have ever or still keeping a monster size senegal,i mean above 50 cm,or close to 50 cm?thanks

lol you are in a messy situation! In a nut shell, Senegals are one of the smallest of all polypterus species. Their size ranges from 8inches to 13 inches. The captive bred sens usually grow to 7 to 8 inches and then stops growing. As for wild senegals their max size is around 12 inches or a bit bigger.

The 50 cm to 70 cm fish wikipedia and the fish store manager are talking about are your wild lower jaw bichirs such as the endlicheri congicus and the polypterus bichir bichirs.

Senegals grow to 62cm in the wild, sern pics of 50cm+ specimen. But your CB store bought senegal might get to 30-35cm max probably will stop growing at about 25cm
