All about the U
As an overflow and pre filter for a wet dry ? Just attach the outlet
Hose to the wet dry. Can this work? Does anyone do this? Can't do any DIY on my tank and this seems like a cool idea

That's what I'm doing right now. I have the wet dry sitting on top of my tank though because I read somewhere that canisters will wear out of they're not pumping water back up to the same level they're drawing it from. Not sure if that's true, but my answer is yes, you can.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. When you have a power outage the canister will continue to syphon, flooding the room that the tank is in

What if the inlet hose is right underneath water level? It wouldnt flood the room would it if I kept the water level in te wet dry low as well?

Correct if the inlet hose is just below the water line it will drain only to that point, but you run a risk of your return line back syphoning. Get a check valve for the return line.

Ok I will grab that. I'm using an eheim2260. That is the filter that will
Pump water to the wet/dry. Is there a certain size return pump I should use for a filter that big? I was gonna buy a mag 7. Will that pump work for this circumstanc

This idea will not work....It is true that putting the intake for the canister right below the water level will keep the tank from draining, but once the power goes out, that line will lose its prime. The return pump will then empty the sump and flood the main tank.

Also, even without the power going off, with a mag 7, you are still going to be running your sump dry over and over and over again.

The simple fact is, no....It will not work at all. Period.

Unless you have an overhead wet/dry, it`s just a really bad idea.
How were you planning on keeping the 2 pumps in balance?
Valves?
How much time were you planning on spending to keep those valves in adjustment?
Even if you could get it to flow equally, what happens when the can gets full of gunk and the flow rate drops off?
If your hot for a wet/dry, just build one and let the can do it`s thing.
