hey guys just wondering if you can use mdf to construct a tank as fir 18mm stuff its only half the price of 18mm plywood?? i would double up so the tank would be 36mm thick. The tank size im planning would be 7x2.5x2.5

keep water away from mdf it turns in to a spounge an doubles in size not to mention its bad for you to cut it it gets some nasty glue chemicals in your lungs.

If it is half the price and you double up, it will end up costing you the same.

Yeah, so if you use two pieces it will cost the same as if you went the regular way with plywood

no coz i would be using 2 pices of 18mm ply at $55AU each compared to 2 pieces of 18mm mdf at $27AU each

Not worth the risk...even if you sealed the MDF eventually some of the moisture would soak through and debond the water soluble glue then you tank would return to the sawdust it once was...

A lot of people build speaker cab's out of it but I don't even trust it for that...at least not for my monster bass amp.

mdf is good for shelves and stands that are not near water or fish tanks later on down the road if you use it it is just gonna turn into a absolute nightmare
