Of the ten Etroplus canarensis in this tank, three pairs have spawned within a day or two of one another. Here, a second pair are guarding their eggs, laid on a rock at the back of the tank. I removed the spawn from the first set of parents a couple of days ago for artificial hatching. The third pair is under a piece of driftwood with their eggs well sheltered. They all seem to be very attentive, albeit nervous little parents.

Spring is in the air..... And apparently your water too :)

Fabulous
It will be interesting to see what kind of parents they turn out to be.
I've just started using tap/rain water mix for my water changes in my canara tank and added a few pots after reading your first post about the spawning, although mine may still be too young.
I'll be moving the tarantsy and andapa to another tank to better the chance of success.

It's my magic elixir ... not! Just some payback for the lousy winter we had:thumbsdow:. If I weren't forced to stay inside and look after them, it probably wouldn't have happened.

Sounds like a good plan, Duane. Good luck with them.

Can't believe you've experienced more spawns in a couple of days than is usually heard of in a year from other keepers. Fantastic!

Thanks. I can't believe it either:confused:

Hi again. As you know, I was keeping my canarensis in with some H. bartoni and T. wesseli. I decided to remove them when I noticed some canarensis starting to 'break from the group'. Doing so just might have given the canarensis the push to pair and then spawn. I get the sense that they are nervous little fish if things aren't quite right. This seemed to calm them down. Removing your 'Tarantsy' and 'Andapa' might do something similar for yours.
