My Mom's side of the family: Out of seven siblings only one has not had cancer. The last one and only one cancer sibling that is still alive is my Aunt. She has been struck by cancer SIX times:shakehead. Started in her 40s and the last time was last year sternum(chest bone). She is 75 about turning 76 this year. Two Uncles Lung cancer(both smokers and 1 tobacco chewer), 1 Uncle cancer(smoker) in bone in his forearm, 1 Aunt above(non-smoker),1 Aunt colon cancer. No one made it past 56 except......My grandmother(snuff dipper) died of breast cancer. The Aunt that had colon cancer had one daughter(non-smoker) that had ovarian cancer a few years it came in her breast. Then it eventually spread to her lungs, liver and brain and she died. We thought my generation was safe no cases. WRONG...The woman I just discussed has a daughter that keeps getting tumors(non-cancerous) My Dad doesn't have cancer on his side. I said maybe the cancer will skip me. My Dad(smoker) had prostate cancer about 2003. He is fine. Then :swear: IT SNATCHES ME!!!!(2006 non-smoker) Then his sister(non-smoker) dies(2008) of ovarian cancer (refuses treatment). THEN the son of :swear: :swear::swear::swear::swear: GRABS MY MOM(2009,smoker, lung cancer) Momhas a cough for years, she would blow it off. She stop smoking cold turkey after the last brother. He told her to quit because you don't want to be like me, you don't want to leave your children like me. Then after all her siblings and Mother die..she eventually told me she didn't want to know why she coughed. She gets diagnosed Jan. 2009. I took care of my Mom everyday and night.Mom makes it to her 60th birthday(Feb.13.2009) She is overjoyed!!! She kept saying over and over I MADE IT!!! The doctors told my Mom on numerous occasions that she wasn't supposed to be here. I told the doctors, you don't know my Mom. The doctors finally say she has anywhere from 3months,6 mos or less. Whenever my Mom would start trying to thank me for taking care of her, I would stop her and tell her, "Momma, I am taking care of you because you never stop taking care of me and you loved me, you stood strong by me when others failed and walked away. You had to be a Mom and Dad. When my Dad re-married, he didn't care and do as he should. Momma, what I am doing for you can never repay you for all that you have done." Then she would stop crying. Then she wanted to tell me about taking care of her, but something in my head said , "Just listen don't say anything." She told me, "I don't know what I would do without you. You take me everywhere I need to go.You push me in that heavy wheelchair. You pick it up and put it in the van and then help me in the van. You make sure I have my food, medicine, water and clean clothes. You make sure I am taking care of all night and during the day. You are running business with no help, and on top of all that YOU ARE VERY SICK!!! Mom passes Dec. 3, 2009. Then in Feb of 2010 one of my Great Aunts had colon cancer 8 years ago. Then it came in her breast. Then D$%! her sister passes in March 2010:wall::wall::swear::swear: The 2 Great Aunts had 2 brothers die of lung cancer years ago. The only factor that my Aunt(survivor) is that she only had radiation. All the others had radiation and chemotherapy, no one survived. I point this out to my doctors and ask why? They blow it off or say it has nothing to do with the survival rate. I'll post my thoughts on cancer on another thread. I really miss you MOM:(:(:(:shakehead:shakehead:cry::cry::headshake:headshake:headshake!!!!

terrible, sorry for your losses

that's terrible man, sorry to hear. makes me realize how we take life for granted...

sorry to hear about your loss. my mum had cancer too, she was supposed to be dead long ago....... but she is still here... she had 8 ops but survived it anyway even though the docs said she'd be dead long ago.

Wow, really sorry to hear that. Sucks to see how many people i know that thinks smoking is cool...

I know how you're feeling. I recently lost one of my god friends to Leukemia, which everyone thought was permanently gone. He was only 19 and it was a very sudden return.

First, I'm sorry for the tragedies you've had to endure. I am still young, but I am watching my parent's generation die right now. People in their fifties and sixties are dying left and right. Many people do, sadly, may have a genetic predisposition to cancer, but it's getting ridiculous now.

[rant] And please, don't even imagine for a moment that it's not a controlled extermination. Our leaders have a responsibility to thin the herd to make sure the resources last. It's disgusting, but it is reality. They are putting toxins into everything they can. Go ahead. Turn a faucet or buy a random item from the store and read up on every chemical in that serving. They aren't even pretending to nourish us. Beneath the thin veneer of smiling Kool-Aid and mother-approved Macaroni and Cheese, malnutrition runs rampant and Those In Charge let it.

What are they eating and how much exercise do they get? I mean, how long have they been trying to minimize their risk factors as a family? I know cancer seems to strike out of the blue and people look at me funny for actively trying to not get cancer, but unless you wake up every day and say, "Today I'm going to do the best I can to avoid carcinogenic substances and toxins.", you're pretty much inviting cancer into your front door. Tap water, cheaply packaged foods full of poisons, even the sun from 10:00 to 5:00 in most areas are all doing their best to off us. Catch a whiff of that diesel truck as it went by? You just increased you rick of lung cancer. Every move we make adds up. [/ rant]

I am so sorry for all of your losses. I have not nearly as many as you but a few close family friends and family members that have been affected with cancer. It is definitely one of those things that gets you thinking about how precious life is. I wish you, the rest of your family and kids (if you have any) good health and help healing with your losses.

Hmm that's a very interesting point of view. I am not sure if I agree with it, it is more of a "everyone is out to get us" opinion. But it is definitely something to consider. Thanks for bringing it up. I definitely do agree with people making bad choices (drinking, smoking, and not staying out of the sun, or protecting themselves from it) leads them to getting sick with cancer or a different kind of disease.
