Canibal clown loach

I have 4 CL in a 150g all been in there together for 6nonths plus had one of the individuals several years. Looked in the tank today one of the smaller ones looks like the others have been eating at its tail? And he is quite gray with some marks on his body. They range from 6-9" any ideas why they would do this out the blue ?

My CLs get multiple small feedings throughout the day because of their high activity level. They're primarily night feeders so, I'd surmise that a feeding just before lights out may be called for to hold them for the night.

BTW, once my CLs reached ~5" they all started hunting down 2-3" shiners along with my trop gars.

Really I always assumed they were peaceful fish. I have moved him to a 30g to heal up
