Looking into filter upgrades and wondering what the MFKers think would work best for this tank setup.
This is a 150 gal species tank housing a group of Synodontis Eupterus.

I had a magnum 350 canister running on it that I'll move to another tank ( well after I get some needed troubleshooting done on it). I've had this filter for many years and I don't have any experiences with other brands of canister filters. I've been happy with the Magnum canister, but then I also don't have any experiences with other brands to compare with.

The obviously choice seemed to be the next upgrade of the Marineland canister called Marineland C-# , which I happened to find for a bargain.
After looking around, I've noticed some of you MFKers are not happy with the Marineland C-#.

Please try giving me at least two choices of canister filters that you like. If there's only one you like, well then just go with that one.
I'll probably try and balance finding a good bargain with getting a decent filter ( like maybe some of you?).

I've been using a Fluval FX5 on a lightly stocked (for now:naughty:) 200G for a few months. I can only say good things about it. I'm going to be adding a second unit in the near future. As my stock of SA cichlids grows it will be necessary. I use the stock sponges for mech and ceramic media for bio. I have excellent water with weekly 50%WC.

Forgot to mention, I'm going to continue to have at least two filters hooked up to this tank. Just haven't decided yet which ones will go to which tank.

I can find the fluval one discounted too. That does seem like it'd be a huge filter for a tank this size since it says it's for up to a 400 gal tank.

Fx5. pay the extra money for it and call it good. theres an lfs by me that sells them nib for $200. they do ship too. if you want the number pm me and ill give you the details.

You can always figure half of what the advertised gallons are. I have found that to be a good rule of thumb. Ever think about a sump?

I check more into both the Eheim 2028 and the Fluval fx5.
Both are more then I can afford right now. But if these turn out to be good choices, I'll just wait longer/save up before I upgrade.

I have thought about a sump, but probably not for this tank.
Though I sorta have a sump if I ever get the wet dry filter running that is sitting underneth it.
I've come to the conclusion after having that wet /dry filter sit under the tank for nearly a year...I'm not good at tinkering with complicated filters and finding parts to put them together.
So I 'm better off looking into a more plug and play filter like another canister at this point.
I figured I can always get the more complicated wet/dry filter running and have both.
