I have a 120g tank stocked with bichirs, a frontosa, and silver dollars. Right now I'm running a good-sized wet/dry sump that is keeping the water chemistry very stable with weekly WCs. However, I'm considering adding to my stock and augmenting my filtration system. I feel that I have my bio filtration under control, but I'm not thrilled with the mechanical filtration of my wet/dry. I was thinking of installing a canister filter set up only for mechanical filtration. Is this a good idea? If so, does anyone have any suggestions re: canister filters that would be particularly well-suited to this task?

Thanks for your help.

Canister solution = Fluval FX 5 in extreme circumstances. sometimes u just need more circulation; problem solved by adding a Korila 4 power head, 1200 GPH of circulation can get those particles moving and out of there. you could also try adding activated carbon to ur sump if ur having water coloration problems.

eheim 2215 fulll of mech media with a big power head on the intake to make the flow rate more

Get a filter sock for the water output into the sump and add a load of filter floss or something above the biomedia.
