Canister Filter Help!!! Advice

I am thinking of buying a 125 pre-drilled 125 gallon tank. The tank has one overflow, originally for salt or reef. I have fresh water south americans. Can I run a canister filter using the existing hole in the tank? If so, any suggestions.

i would just use a wet/dry/sump, they work great, or just plug the holes and use a canister.
