I just picked up a used Cascade 700. I'm having issues with getting the motor to start. It had worked before for the previous owner, but he couldn't get it to work when I picked it up. I got it for practically free, and figured I might be able to get it to work. If not, I wasn't really throwing much away.

Anyone have any idea's why the motor won't work, or what I could do to fix it?

Thanks,
Conner

Did you tank the motor/impeller out to clean it?

Did you prime the filter?

The problem is when I plug it in, the motor doesn't even try to start. I tried removing the impeller, but couldn't get more than the center rod out. It may be jammed or something. Priming didn't make a difference.

I have a cas 700 and I am able to take the top off and turn it over and unscrew the upper impellar shroud (?). And then slide out the impellar/magnet/shaft assembly out.

It sounds like the magnet on the impellar has bound up inside the motor. Probably from sand getting in there. If you can take some needle nose pliers or something and reach down in there and pull it out, then you should be able to take some fine sand paper and smooth everything back up. And then reassemble.

I have had my 700 and 1000 apart several times, so if you need a hand let me know.

I bought my 1000 used and it was used on a sand tank and the impellar magnet has horrible scratches all over it. I sanded it a little with some 600 grit paper because it would hang up every now and then and make a loud rattle sound. Unfortunately parts like a impellar assemble for these are hard to find. Or impossible for me.

i agree, it sounds like the impeller is frozen, you may have to replace it, but I would try cleaning it first. You can probably find the manual online or someone on here can tell you how to remove the entire impeller assembly.

I think this may be missing. I know the spot you're talking about, but there isn't anything screwed into this spot. I agree that it seems like the impeller is jammed, and there was a lot of red colored sand grit inside the housing, so that would make sense. Hopefully I can get the impeller out. I can pull out the center post of the impeller, but the white impeller and the rest of the housing are pretty well stuck in there. Any suggestions on how to get it out without damaging it? Or should I just do what I need to get it out and buy a new impeller?

Well, I found a site where I can order most of the parts for the filter. I can either order a replacement impeller, o-ring, and retainer for about $11.00 plus shipping, or I can order a replacement motor for $46.95 plus shipping.

What do you think?

Whats the site, bro ? I couldn't find anything back when I got mine. But thats been a year or so.

I got mine used on ebay for right around 30 bucks and shipping. So I would try to repair it and if needed get the impellar, before the motor.

Besides these motor's are super simple and it is very very rare for one to go bad. All they are is a copper wound electro magnet. And the impellar magnet is the same polarity . So when they are forced together there is a opposite firce which causes it to spin.

So if you can get the impellar out, then it can be fixed. In a last resort you can break the impellar to get it out and then just replace a 11 dollar part.

Here's the website:

I think I'm just going to purchase a replacement impeller, plus the missing impeller retainer and o-ring. That way I'm only out like $20 including shipping. And like you said, I can always break the old impeller to get it out.
