I'm Where I'm At
If a canister filter hasn't been used in 3-4 months and sitting on a shelf, and you go to use it again, do the bio balls and bio max have to be replaced??

btw, what are your experience with Jebo filters??

Watching your tank parameters wil answer the question for you. If the media has lost most of it's surface area, it won't be able to handle as large of a bio load. The bio balls can't really get clogged, but the bio-max will probably be better off replaced.

Thanks,............ I have a 120g with a jebo 828 in it already and I'm adding this second one I bought used and it still had the media in it. I'm replacing the pads with dish scrubbing pads (btw that's ok right? just buy and insert?) but just wasn't sure about the bio balls and the biomax. Am I better off just replacing all together??

Howdy,

Media for bio and mech filtration do not go bad if they were rinsed before storage. If they are covered with crap (literally), then it might be easiest to get new media, though.

Just boil them for a couple of minutes. It'll be fine.

oh really?? I'll do that, if anything, I'll try it and use the filter and if something goes wrong I'll just replace the stuff

I have a five gallon bucket with media in it. When I set up a new filter I just get some water boiling and add it. It only takes a few minutes to setilize it. Works great.
