Hey y'all!

Been out of the game for about 4 years, been doing SW during that time, but I'm getting back into monsters. I just purchased a FX6 (great deal on Prime Day) but I realize that I don't know what people are recommending for filter media nowadays. Are we still using bio-balls and ceramic rings? What is the conventional wisdom of today when it comes to getting the most bang out of your filter?

Thanks for the advice!

Guess it depends on what available and what you want to spend. Some use bio-max, ceramic rings, lava rock etc. Just up to the individual, I myself use ehiem substrat pro.

I use Pond Matrix and Substrat pro, but thats only because that's what I had laying around from years of usage. My next choice is Pot Scrubers which I also have an abundance of, but will most likely use in my 2262 if I ever get a tank large enough to justify using it on....LOL

You havent missed much, still no need to pay premium prices for advertising of "super abundant surface area" in my book. I got off that bandwagon YEARS AGO(hence still reusing media thats almost 10 years old)

Good husbandry (weekly water changes and not overfeeding) works every time. ;)
