u sure u got the 700 cuz that has two trays i believe and the 1200 has 4 trays.

anyway i have a 1000,i use what they gave with it.i also add a bunch of filter floss in all three baskets.

so the bottom is the black sponge, then the filter pad, then the floss
mid and top is pad, then floss

i do the mechanical way cuz my 55[in sig].
water stays very clear but turns slight brown if i get lazy and not do my 50% water changes weekly

and if i had 4 trays mine would still be the same but at the top i would add a box or 2 of bio max

i had 2 canisters running, one was filter / floss/charcoal/wool etc... the other was just bio-media..

just do what makes you happy.

if you only have one running, just have a heap of wool and a activated carbon and some bio-d00dl3z or lava rock or something

 g'luck!

Howdy,

In general, you want some coarse mechanical media (e.g. Ehfimech) on the bottom, then some biomedia (e.g. EhfiSubstrat pro) and some filter floss to top it off.
