Is it possible to use a single or two canister filters with a 180g that has dual built in overflows? I assume it would be hard to do because the water level would have to be just right or it would not overflow preventing water from getting down to the canister.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Are you talking about plumbing the standpipes with canisters? There's nothing that can't be done. In fact, I have mine setup like that.

However, if you are talking about wanting to fill the water up just so that the water wouldn't overflow, I will advise against it. If your tank is glass and the overflow is made of acrylic, the silicone seal holding acrylic and glass will leak in time due to greater pressure from the tank interior. Of course, you could seal the return/drain holes but you don't want water staying sedentary in the overflow as they will build all sorts of bacterai, parasites, and fungus in it.

I am talking about using the standpipes/built in overflows that came with the tank and plumbing them with canisters instead of a wet/dry. Is there anything special about the setup or what you need to keep your water level at. I would assume you would run into problems if the water level gets too low and doesn't overflow, the canister will not have a supply of water and could overheat, etc....

Thanks
