How handy a guy are you?
If you opened your bathroom cabinet and found water would you fix it or call a plumber?
Sumps are great. Wet/dry or submerged media, both are very effective for large tanks.
But, only if you feel comfortable working with all the components.
If not, they can become a real headache and mess.
Not knowing how adept you are makes advice hard to give.
Would suggest you look at some of the "stickys" on sumps and see if this is something you could do.
Canisters in the large sizes and flow rates run into some serious money.
Unless the tank is very lightly stocked, you would probably be looking at more than a single canister.
Would make sense to have more than a single filter for safety should something happen to one, no matter what stocking level you have.
In-between canisters and sumps are the pleated cartridge, pressure filters that can do a super job without a guy being a pipe/fitting whiz.
Good luck on your choice.
