Quick question. For a canister filter, is it best to have it positioned directly under the tank in the center? It is currently on the right hand side of my tank and I have uneven length tubes going for the intake and out tubes. If it is in the center, with the same length hoses (outtake on left side of tank, intake on right side) will my suction be better?

nope it will be fine how it is

i never noticed a difference my old set up was like that... when i fixed everything and made it all equal it didnt make any difference that i could see/notice

I would think intake and outlet positioning would be more important for good water circulation compared to hose length and filter placement.

Awesome! Thanks for the speedy replies. My XP4 isn't kicking to much water out so I am wondering as to why. Its pretty clean so....

whats pretty clean??? you clean the impeller? anything in the hoses? fine filter pads?

Impeller gets cleaned by me regularly. There is a bit of buildup in the tubes, looks like brown algae, but there Isn't a massive amount. All the media is clear of anything that could block water flow.

You might want to check the filter manual to see if the manufacturer recommends cutting the hoses the same length. I try to keep the hoses about the same length when I install my canister filters but then I am using two per tank.
