canister filter

it depends on what brand you like xp3 are good magunm350 are good the fluval404 good and eheim makes some good canisters...it also depends on how much money you want to spend and what brand...what size tank you setting up?

best canisters for the money are eheim an Magnums. Magnums are more versitile (as you can put a micron cartidge in them an the have the gravel vac attachment).
Fluvals are good ( gotten better over the years) I still have two working fluval 403s (that I use for extra bio an cycling tanks). if your getting a big tank Id consider a fluval FX5

or acouple Smaller fluvals, magnums or eheims.

if money is no object get the eheims they are the best imo ive had them and im getting more of them soon the best i hate my fluval 304

It not a simple case of what is the best. It needs to meet your requirements before it past the test. You have got to ask you’re self, is it in you bed room lounge so if yes you don’t want a nosy one. How big is the tank and what sort of fish. No good sticking a small canister on it when a mans canister is required. Last of all room have you got the room to fit the size you need. There are loads out there all promising to do the same from very little up to huge amounts. As always I say Eheims. Why because over the years I have tried all the new ones that come out and at the end of the day you get what you pay for, the classics are well priced relatively quiet easy to work on and parts are readily available for them normally off the shelf. What size tank are you going to put it on and what sort of fish? And stocking levels were you thinking off? The Eheim 2217+ Classic Canister Filter is a Quality product for sensible money. It comes complete with filter foams (various grades), hoses, taps, and fittings etc and are ready to set up and run. And I have seen it here in the U.K for £75 all this and has a Pump output of 1000l/h this is ok for a 132 Gallon tank.

Howdy,

I have never had anythign but Eheims (I am trying to forget a Fluval debacle in the late 90's, it was not pretty). Anyhow, my oldest Eheim has been running 24/7 for the past 17 years ... still not showing signs of breaking.
