I got my 75g on a marineland c-360 and im looking into a better canister filter. Having a hard time deciding if I want to do a fluval 406 or a fx6. Anybody running them and if so whats your opinions about them. Ive been doing my hw on them but just cant decide so im curious on ppls feedback about them

If you are set on Fluval, go with the 406. The FX is probably larger then you need. Plus it is a bad design. The pump is on the bottom and if sand gets in it you could end up with a pile of junk. The 406 is pretty much fool proof. An even better choice would be an Eheim 2217.

Thanks. Reason for fluval is because parts are easily available near me. When I bought the marineland c360 it was a spur of the moment and on sale. I like it and all butparts arent to easy to get beaides the filters. And they are pricier than fluvals for less so I want to get so.ething better

Of all the cans I like the Rena xp line the best. Quiet, efficient , most parts are interchangeable and pretty easy to pull the aqua stop and do maintenance. Plus the pump is top mounted so sand settles in the sediment compartment and rigid have to travel through all the media/sponges to get it the impeller. Virtually sand proof. My cichlids spit it right into the intake and I've never replaced an impeller on any of the 6 I run.

I would have to agree with rodger, I am a big fan of the eheims. But the 406 is a good filter from what I've read.

2217 won't move enough water for a 75G nor suck it inside, although it holds plenty of bio media.
I have a 2217 on 40B with young stock, nothing over 3 inches and must vacc poo.

Thanks giys. I went with the 406 being the local near me carries all of the parts. The closest shop that carries ehiem is about 20 min away and due to my job it makes it difficult to get there and back into my area being a 20 min call response time

FX6 is probably too much for a 75, but all the same a lot of people go for 10x turnover on their FW tanks. FX turn under 600gph.

I personally like fluval. Including the FX series, don't sweat the people talking bad about the FX, it's proven just like the filters they recommend. And everyone has their opinions.
